Touchable sculptures invite viewer to be one with art exhibit

A reception was held on Saturday, April 6 at DIME Savings Bank in Patchogue on Main Street for the paradoxically daring and comforting interactive installation exhibit by Beth Giacummo titled, “Unbound Frequencies.”

The site-specific illuminated installation featured inflatable sculpture and projection mapped video elements and an original soundscape created by Dan Lachacz of the “Conversation.”

“Artist Beth Giacummo, captivated by the emotive essence and fleeting allure of marine life, brings her vision to life through this interactive interpretation represented by inflatable forms this… installation bathes in a spectrum of colored light, pulsating rhythms, and projected imagery, fostering a sense of familiarity and interconnectedness,” said Loretta Corbisiero-Drakos, M.A., M.S. Ed., a longtime collaborator of Giacummo.

“The undulating organic shapes mirror the ebb and flow of the waters and rhythmic dance of the sea life that surround Long Island. Much like the transient nature of life, these organic contours come alive, immersing and engaging the viewer into a realm of belonging,” said Corbisiero-Drakos.

Designed to sustain and embrace human touch, Giacummo’s floating and towering inflatable sculptures, lit with almost luminescent colors, create an aquarium in the deep recesses of the ocean, where perhaps an underground rave of sea urchins and coral can take place.

The exhibit is on display until May 4 and begins each night at sundown.
