Remembering on Memorial Day

Posted

At Helping Makes U Happy, May is all about Memorial Day, which, of course, is a day for remembering those who have died in service to our country.

As in years past, prior to the start of the 9 a.m. parade on May 29, we will be offering our free breakfast to local veterans and their families at Local VFW Post 414. If you are a veteran who’d like to attend, please contact us so we know you’re coming.

If you are a business or community member who would like to participate by donating a breakfast item or drink, or make a financial donation to help with expenses, please contact us at 631-848-9008, or by email at helpingmakesuhappy@gmail.com.

If you’d like to volunteer to help us honor our veterans by helping to set up, serve, and clean up, we’d love to hear from you!  Setup is at 7 a.m., serving is no later than 7:30.  After the breakfast, we go outside to watch the ceremony the veterans perform before the parade, and we stay to watch the parade, which progresses down Main Street and ends at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, where another respectful ceremony is held in remembrance of those who have died in service.

These events really bring home the true meaning of Memorial Day. Hope to see you there!
