KEITH'S CORNER

Keith’s Corner: Summer is almost here

Posted

It's beginning to finally feel like summer, and at Helping Makes U Happy that does not mean summer vacation!

June is another busy month for us. We are helping out a couple students for prom, some for camps, and of course, the beginning of the month is scholarship time!

We love going to all the area high schools and presenting our four HMUH scholarships, and funding the Martha O'Brien Hometown Scholarship. It makes us really happy to read about what all the community service students are doing!

We are finally going to be packing up those comfort cases to deliver to Suffolk County for the kids in need. And another year of the "Summer Feeding the Families" begins the last week in June.

Pictured is founder Keith Caputo and librarian Margie DeCaro, along with library director Marcie Litjens, helping to gather eggs for the families referred to us by the school last summer. If anyone has an overabundance of eggs from their chickens or produce from their gardens this summer, please keep us in mind. Last year we fed 27 families with a total of 63 children weekly throughout the summer. We pack the food boxes up on Tuesdays for delivery on Wednesdays, and donations and volunteers are always welcome!

Please call us at 631-848-9008 if you are interested in helping.

June also is the month we start gathering donations and sponsors for our annual HMUH Chinese Auction—the happiest auction around! This is our major fundraiser for helping our communities throughout the year. It's Keith's favorite event and we are sure you'll be seeing his smiling face around town!

We wish all the seniors a wonderful and safe prom experience, and congratulations to you and your families on your high school graduation!
