Self-storage facility proposed for Station Road

Posted

Last week, the Brookhaven Town Board set a public hearing for May 16 at 5:30 p.m. to consider an application for a zoning change to build a self-storage facility at the southeast corner of Station Road and the Sunrise Highway South Service Road in Bellport.

The property is currently zoned “A” residential. SAFStor Real Estate Co. LLC. wants to rezone about 6.7 acres to “L” industrial to build a two-story, 106,252-square-foot self-storage facility.

The developer isn’t seeking a zoning change for the remaining approximately 7 acres at the site, which “will remain natural and undeveloped,” according to its application.

The project will cost $11.2 million to develop and generate $145,000 a year in property taxes, according to SAFStor’s application.

SAFStor, which is based in Daytona Beach, Fla., has developed more than 4.4 million square feet of space in 17 states, according to its website.
