Open house to celebrate church’s anniversary

Posted

Presbyterian Church of the Moriches will continue celebrating its 275th anniversary on Saturday, Sept. 23, with an open house. The free community event will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.; rain or shine.

The open house will include a tour of the church, which was formally established on Oct. 12, 1748, and documents of that period will be on display.

The theme of the day will be “colonial times.” There will be soups, chowders, biscuits and breads, all made from period recipes. There will also be lawn games for guests and performances by the Harbormen Barbershop Choir and Fife and Drum performers as well as other musical groups.

Both self-guided and informational tours will be made available.

“Our first building was on this very spot on Railroad and Main Street in 1809 and has been enlarged many times since,” said church organizers of the historic building.
