Board approves municipal agreement with TOI for fire marshal services

Brightwaters board of trustees meeting recap

Posted

On Monday, Aug. 1, the Brightwaters board of trustees held their monthly meeting at Brightwaters Village Hall.

The board voted to approve authorization for the mayor to enter into a municipal agreement between the Town of Islip and the Village of Brightwaters for fire marshal services. The mayor noted that the village had their own fire marshal for about 20 years, but that individual retired.

The board approved permission to pay Rosemar Contracting Inc. $281,276.70 for the pavement resurfacing project with National Grid and to pay FenceMan Inc. the amount of $848.16 for new striping at stop signs. Mayor John Valdini said that the money for those projects came from National Grid, which messed up the roads during repairs and paid for them to be fixed. The board also approved permission to pay Rosemar Contracting Inc. to pave Mohawk Drive in the amount of $31,390.61.

The board approved permission to pay Brightwaters Building Company for the underground electrical works for the gazebos in the amount of $6,800. The board approved permission to pay Sit Back & Relax for landscaping services at 487 Ackerson Boulevard from mid-June to the end of October in the amount of $2,000 to be added to the properties tax bill. Valdini said the resident who lived at the house died last year and right now there is no owner, as the issue is going through lawyers. The property was in disarray, so the village paid to have it cleaned up for the surrounding area and neighbors, and will charge the estate once ownership is cleared up. The board approved permission to discount the mooring rate to half price as of Aug. 15. The board voted and approved a Brightwaters facility use permit for Challenger Athletics Inc. for a fundraiser/cocktail party at Walker Beach on Friday, Sept. 16 from 4 to 8 p.m. Challenger Athletics provides sports programs for kids with learning and physical disabilities. The board voted and approved an outdoor public assembly permit for the Bay Shore Rotary Club to hold a snapper derby fundraiser at Gilbert Park on Sept. 9 from 5 to 7 p.m.

The board held a brief public discussion on applying for the NY Forward Program and Downtown Revitalization Initiative for the rezoning of the downtown business district and the development of more public parking. The board voted to go forward with the process of applying for the money from New York State.
