Thousands expected at Bayport-Blue Point St. Pat’s parade

Posted

The Bayport-Blue Point Chamber of Commerce hosts its 35th annual St. Patrick’s Parade on Sunday, March 16.

The parade begins at Montauk Highway and Snedecor Avenue in Bayport and ends at Montauk Highway and Blue Point Avenue in Blue Point.

The Suffolk County Police Department typically begins closing off streets on the parade’s route two hours before the start of the parade (11 a.m.).

This year’s co-grand marshals are Craig and Wendy Clare. Chamber president Karl Auwaerter said the Clares would make this “Saint Patrick’s Day parade one of the best yet... [because it is] led by two people who are directly responsible for making these two towns so wonderful.”

Wendy, who was nominated by three different people for our Women’s History Month profile in 2021, has an impressive resume with as a past president of the PTA, board member of the Youth Football League, youth football coach for seven years and treasurer, and president of Society of SEABBS (Society Encouraging the Arts in Bayport-Blue Point).

Husband Craig has also been super-active in community initiatives and organizations and has carried out his work as a volunteer, sometimes as late as 9 p.m., and returned to his office at 2 a.m.

Leading the parade lineup for this year is VFW Post 913, Sayville American Legion Post 651, the BBP Chamber of Commerce, Celtic Friars Pipe Band, the Clares, past grand marshals, The Christopher A. Coluccio Foundation, and legislators Anthony Piccirillo and Domnick Thorne.
