Suffolk Democrats host fall dinner, call for ‘unity’

Election season is now in full swing, and the Suffolk County Democratic Committee recently held its Fall Dinner 2022 on Thursday, Oct. 13 from 6 to 8 p.m. The event had an emphasis on the importance of encouraging everyone to get out and vote this Election Day, less than a month away on Nov. 8.

The elegant gala was held at Villa Lombardi’s in Holbrook and hosted by Babylon Town supervisor Rich Schaffer, who is seeking reelection and who also serves as the chairman of the Suffolk County Democratic Committee; sheriff Errol D. Toulon Jr.; minority leader Jason Richberg; and the Democratic caucus.

After a delicious dinner and a chance to mingle, esteemed speakers included Schaffer, Lt. Governor of New York Antonio Delgado, New York State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli, and Attorney General of New York Letitia James.

Delgado gave an impassioned speech in which he encapsulated the spirit of the evening. He said, “How did a person like me, with a name like mine and a rap album, win?” said the self-professed unlikely political leader, adding a further clarion call to unity amid a culture of divisiveness. “People feel detached from government. Our democracy is a moral imperative. That’s what it means. As we make our way through the next several weeks and beyond, yes, left/right matters, but right/wrong has to matter first. Integrity matters,” he remarked to enthusiastic applause.
