The holiday spirit was everywhere last Saturday evening as The Bay Shore Chamber of Commerce, The Bay Shore Restaurant Committee and Bay Shore Beautification, celebrated 25 years of “Light the Night,” by extending that tradition to illuminate Bay Shore’s downtown along Main Street with this year’s “Light the Town” event.
Outdoors, the groups came together to welcome the community at the kick-off to the holiday season. Hundreds of tea lights gently flickered along Main Street, which was closed off to traffic.
Children ran over to visit with Santa at the gazebo in Dr. King’s Park, while parents snapped photos as keepsakes of the night’s activities. There were carolers dressed in Dickens-like costumes entertaining, while hot chocolate was free flowing to take away the winter chill. Frosty the Snowman also made an appearance!
While indoors, attendees could visit one of the many wonderful shops like Willy Nilly’s festive Christmas store, whose shelves sparkled with crystal wine goblets and jewelry, holiday platters, lighted canvases boasting homey Christmas scenes, dazzling ornaments and snow globes. The inviting clothing section has an amazing collection of faux furry scarves, hats, stoles, and gloves you won’t find anywhere else, just perfect for gift giving.
The restaurants like Salt and Barrel, known for its oysters and craft cocktails, were bustling, too. The carolers made their way through town, stopping in to sing to the delight of dining guests.
For those who would like to continue the holiday spirit and have more family fun, stop in at Brightwaters Farm now through Dec. 24 for their Christmas Extravaganza to pick out your freshly cut Christmas tree. Have breakfast with Santa, take a hayride, or pick up homemade pies and treats!
You’d like to be Santa? Bay Shore has it all! Stop in at Taylor Rental for your Christmas costumes.
Stroll, shop, and dine in one of the loveliest towns on the South Shore.
