St. Mark’s hosts annual Christmas Bazaar

St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Islip held its annual Christmas Bazaar this past Saturday. People explored all the various offerings on the main level, the basement, and the upstairs of the historical church.

Upon walking into the small chapel, people were met with uniquely decorated Christmas trees and wreaths of all sizes; no two looked the same. Also on the main level were jewelry tables, holiday plant displays, bows, and handmade Christmas decorations.

Upstairs, there was an abundance of snacks, foods, and beverages for sale. Attendees could enjoy Manhattan and New England clam chowder and take soup home by the pint or the quart. In addition, there were tuna and chicken salad sandwiches and hot dogs. Hot chocolate, coffee, tea, soda, and water were offered.

In the basement, volunteers and parishioners of St. Mark’s were busy selling raffle tickets for large baskets lined up on tables throughout the room. Some baskets were themed, such as a basket of Funko Pops and another with an American Girl Doll and clothing. A basket full of baby items caught many people’s attention. All the raffles were put together by St. Mark’s community members. Baked goods could also be bought—one table featured only cookies. More handmade items were being sold.

Christmas music played as people shopped or chose which baskets to put their raffle tickets in. Santa Claus also attended, interacting with all who stopped by. St. Mark’s priest, Fr. Edwin, also participated in support of the St. Mark’s community and all who made the Christmas Bazaar a success.

Money raised during this annual St. Mark’s Christmas event goes to Episcopal Church Women (ECW), whose purpose is to help those in need through the church. They also support the improvement of the church.
