Sportsman’s Club presents gift to cancer organizations

Posted

In the spirit of the holiday season, the Peconic River Sportsman’s Club donated a total of $54,000 this past year to local breast cancer charities. On Dec. 11, representatives from the Babylon Breast Coalition, Lucia’s Angels, and the North Fork Breast Health Coalition cheerfully accepted checks of $18,000 for each of the three organizations.

For the last 10 years, PRSC has held “Take a Shot at Cancer,” an annual fundraising event usually held in September that features clay shooting, raffles and a barbecue lunch for its members and the public. The proceeds from that day are traditionally distributed to cancer charities during a holiday party held in December at the historic PRSC clubhouse.

“We are so gratified by the generosity of our members, neighbors and friends, especially this year, which was one of the best. Sal Echel and the Sporting Clays Committee really came through. After a decade of hosting this important fundraiser, PRSC is close to hitting a total of $250,000. These organizations are doing good work on Long Island, and we are so pleased to be able to support them,” said PRSC vice president Joe Hocker, who chaired the fundraiser along with director Ed Walden.

Peconic River Sportsman’s Club is located on 400 acres in Manorville and open to the public on a limited basis. For more information on the club or upcoming events, contact Natalie Lugo at nlugo0502@gmail.com or visit http://www.PeconicRiver.club
