UPDATED: Man killed after being shot by officer in Manorville

Police have identified the gunshot victim as Jesse Bonsignore, 44. Police believe he was living in his car at the time of his death.

Police are investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting that occurred in Manorville Thursday night.

Reports said a Seventh Precinct officer was dispatched to a 911 call reporting a suspicious person lying on the back seat of a vehicle in the vicinity of 67 Bauer Ave. at approximately 10:45 p.m.

Upon arrival, the officer located the vehicle and the male subject. The officer engaged him, reports said, and "a struggle ensued." The officer then fired his gun at the man, killing him. 

Further details explaining the altercation were not immediately available from Suffolk County Police.

The man, whose identity has not been confirmed, was pronounced dead at the scene, and a knife was recovered from him. The officer was transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center for treatment.

Suffolk County Homicide Section detectives along with investigators from the New York State Office of the Attorney General Office of Special Investigation are investigating. Individuals with information are encouraged to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
