The Rotary Club of the Moriches recently honored their three Center Moriches students of the month for January, February, and March.
The students were Casey Ennis, Sophia Resti and Erin Baldock, respectively.
“Casey, Sophia and Erin exhibit outstanding qualities in academics, leadership, and involvement in our Moriches community,” said Rotary past president and member Tom Chieffo.
Ennis is president of Friends and Buddies participating in the Unified golf, bowling, and basketball programs, giving students with disabilities the opportunity to be part of a team. He has also been involved in community service projects, including organizing school blood drives and toy drives. He is vice president of the Student Council and president of the Yearbook committee. He plans on attending SUNY Cortland in September.
Resti is a member of Rho Kappa Foreign Language Society and the National Society. Her involvement in the Moriches community includes organizing a Turkey Trot, a 5K Mental Health Run, and PS I Love You Day. Resti is a member of the Unified bowling team. She has a bone disability and has been confined to a wheelchair her entire life. Despite this, she has held different events to raise awareness about her disability and had a bake sale this past May to raise money for Ronald McDonald House. She plans on continuing her education in September.
Baldock is also very involved in the Moriches community. She was instrumental in starting a volleyball tournament to help raise funds for PS I Love You Day, a week in February dedicated to suicide and mental health awareness. She is also involved in the Unified Sports Program, the Turkey Trot, Blood Drive and is a STEM volunteer. She is a member of the National Honor Society, the Math, English, and Science honor societies, Rho Kappa Social Studies Honor Society, and the Foreign Language Honor Society. Baldock will be attending Utica University in September.
The club has also recently presented scholarships to these students of the month in addition to seniors Chloe Bohm, Isabella Flores and Lucy Martuscello.
“Congratulations to these graduating seniors and all of the class of Center Moriches,” said Chieffo. “The Moriches Rotary wishes all of you the best of luck and a very bright future.”
The club is also always seeking new members from the Moriches, Manorville and Eastport area. They meet on the first and third Wednesday of each month at the Sunsets at Senix Marina Restaurant. The meetings begin at 6 p.m. For more information visit: morichesrotary.org or contact Tom Chieffo at 631-294-5365.
