The Town of Islip’s annual Apple Festival returns this Saturday at the Islip Grange in Sayville with a full day of fall fun lined up, including craft and food vendors, amusement rides, apple treats, and more.

The Town of Islip’s 46th annual Apple Festival takes place this Saturday, Oct. 24, from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Islip Grange in Sayville, with sold-out vendor spaces across the festival grounds. Free shuttle buses will transport attendees from the Sayville Train Station, where free drawstring backpacks will be handed to the first 2,000 riders.

Classic attractions including carnival rides, craft vendors, live music all day, pony rides and a petting zoo will line the park, with plenty of apple desserts and food in store.

A “Taste of Apple Culinary Contest” will also be taking place, where homemade desserts will be judged in categories including pies and cakes, muffins and bread, jams and jellies, and cookies and candy. All entries are free and must be homemade, feature apples, and be brought to the Apple Festival before 10:30 a.m. on Saturday.

A scarecrow contest is also returning this year, with free entry for scarecrows of any theme. Scarecrows must have a name, and be dropped off at Islip Grange this Friday between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., or Saturday from 8-9:30 a.m. Alternative drop-off dates can be arranged by calling the town’s cultural affairs office at (631) 224-5430. Ribbons will be awarded for first, second, and third place winners.
