The Long Island Game Farm in Manorville is now accepting applications for summer college interns. The program is managed by the Wildlife Sustainability.
“The Internship Program at the Long Island Game Farm is going into its second year,” said Wildlife Sustainability executive director Patricia Snyder. “We are so grateful for last year’s interns for their diligence and their constructive feedback that will guide us towards an outstanding experience for the 2025 interns.”
College internship positions are open to students majoring in biology, pre-veterinary, animal behavior studies, zoology, animal care, and environmental science, or similar programs. Selected interns will participate in a four-to-five-week program actively involved with the care and feeding of animals, and/or help to further develop the Woodland Trail as a new educational and universal access recreational offering at the Game Farm.
In addition to daily duties and rotating weekly assignments, interns will be required to research, design and implement a project related to their field of interest, and develop an educational presentation for the public.
“Teaching students about animal care, our No. 1 priority, is so important,” said LI Game Farm president Melinda Novak. “Whether our interns go into animal care at a zoo or vet studies, it helps them realize what commitment (in any weather and every day) is required. We hope the internship experience at the Long Island Game Farm inspires our interns to care for wildlife and the natural environment.”
Past interns have described the program as like being a part of a family, and though the work is demanding and tiring, it’s a great way to get familiar with the animals on a daily basis.
