Last weekend, my family and I visited Waterdrinker Family Farm to pick our own tulip bulbs. The tulips had been in full bloom Mother’s Day weekend but had died due to higher temperatures. Still, the bulb-picking was even more fun.
The farm has about 15 acres open to the public but sits on a larger 70 acres, including 30 of flower fields. According to owner Mark Weiss, the farm is currently growing sweet corn for late-summer and fall roasting.
The farm also boasts tons of activities for the kids including a large play set, photo ops, barnyard animals, mini-golf holes and bouncy pads. Looking for fun family shots or Instagram backgrounds? This is the place to go with tons of idle vintage cars, a windmill and other cute spots.
The place is also pet-friendly and has food trucks on site for refreshments. Also, coming soon is the Long Island Farm Brewery with owners and operators brothers Joe Weiss, Kirk Weiss and Nick Giuffrey.
Up next is the Fall Sunflower Festival; this time we will be sure not to miss it. The flowers will be for admiration only, until later in the season when you-pick will be announced. Admission is $15 for entry.
Also coming up, Weiss said, is the second annual car show with a date to-be-announced on Father’s Day weekend. The greenhouses are open daily for spring plants and the gift shop for merchandise and local baked treats.
