The annual BASH Awards held on May 22 at Hofstra University honored exceptional talent from broadcasting and film classes across Long Island, with East Islip High School proudly claiming first place for Best Anchor Duo. Seniors Juliana Banville and Julianna D’Addario earned this prestigious award, showcasing the exceptional skills and dedication they have developed over years in the school’s video production program.
The BASH Awards highlight the creativity and hard work thriving within Long Island’s expanding broadcasting and film education community. The event fosters connection and celebration, bringing together teachers, administrators and most importantly, students – the future creators of media.
This year’s competition was particularly competitive, making Banville and D’Addario’s achievement all the more remarkable. Both seniors have been key members of East Islip’s video production program, guided by technology education teacher Bill Lackner, for several years.
“Juliana and Julianna’s passion for broadcasting and video production has made them standout ambassadors for both the program and the school,” Lackner said.
Their first-place win at the BASH Awards underscores the talent and commitment of East Islip’s students and educators, shining a bright light on the flourishing broadcasting program and the promising future of media arts at East Islip High School.
“Winning Best Anchor Duo at the BASH Awards was something Jules and I have been hoping for ever since we first heard about the event,” Banville said. “Learning how to effectively communicate in front of the camera and broadcasting information of the entire East Islip community has been a privilege and an honor, especially since I get to do it with one of my best friends.”
“Broadcasting class is such a great time,” D’Addario said. “I look forward to learning, performing, laughing and having a great time with my friends and colleagues each and every day. Being rewarded for something that you love just makes these moments even more special.”
