East Islip High School senior Sarah Smalley signed a national letter of intent on Nov. 13 to play field hockey for Syracuse University next fall. She plans to major in biochemistry and forensics.
A four-year varsity starter and two-year team captain for East Islip’s field hockey team, the midfielder’s exceptional accolades included All-Conference (2019); All-County Honorable Mention (spring 2021); All-County, All-Tournament, MVP and county finalist (fall 2021); and All-State, All-Tournament, MVP and Carey Award (2022). Smalley will finish her high school field hockey career as East Islip’s third all-time leader in points.
Smalley’s academic successes are no less impressive. An AP Scholar with Distinction and member of East Islip’s National Honor Society and World Language Honor Society, she will graduate in the top 10 percent of her class with an AP Capstone Diploma. Smalley also earned the High Minds in Motion and Scholar-Athlete awards for all four of her varsity seasons.
