Eagle Scout project at Soldiers and Sailors Park

Michael Hempfling is officially an Eagle Scout!

Last year, he completed his project at Soldiers and Sailors Park in East Moriches.  Hempfling, 17, collected about $12,000 for the project, which included professional installation of flag poles and then work done by volunteers to landscape and rock the surrounding area. The project, which took about a month to complete, was up just in time for last year’s Veterans Day ceremony, and will also be home to this year’s as well.

“I couldn’t be prouder of him and his dedication to seeing this project through,” said his mother Jennifer Hempfling, also noting the specialness of the idea to honor local veterans. His family comes from a long line of military people, of which his uncles and other members of his family helped raise the flags.

“I am very thankful for the community that helped support my project,” Eagle Scout Hempfling added.
