The Anthony Parlato Memorial 5K is a great way to kick off the summer by supporting the Moriches Community Center. The run will be held on June 1 at 9 a.m. at Neville Park.

The run will benefit all Moriches Community Center camps and programs for the summer and fall. This summer, they will host three camps to help get students active during their time off.

“By honoring Anthony and Kathleen, everyone can help continue to carry on programs for the youth in the community,” said co-director of the community center Sonny Saguto.

Last year, over 60 runners participated. Kaleb Kemper and Delaney Kleinman were declared the overall winners of the race, which raised nearly $8,000 for the center’s youth programs, according to its website.

The event, now in its 20th year, was renamed in honor of Anthony Parlato. The local basketball coach was an integral part of the community center when it was formed over two decades ago and became its vice president.
