New cycling studio now open in Center Moriches

When Amanda Mercurio tore her ACL a few years ago, the first step of her physical therapy rehabilitation was to hop on a stationary bike.

“Riding the bike definitely helped me improve,” she said.

Now, her fondness for cycling has led to her and her husband, Michael Mercurio, opening AM Fitness & Cycle in Center Moriches. The studio, which opened in December, offers cycling classes for all skill levels, as well as group strength training and personal training.

Mercurio, 27, has been a personal trainer for six years, and has been teaching cycling locally at other locations. She felt Center Moriches could use a studio like this, as there isn’t one close by.

“Cycling is one of my favorite types of cardio,” she said.

Originally from Hampton Bays, Mercurio and her husband, originally from East Moriches, moved to Center Moriches two years ago. After a year of planning and searching for the right location, the Mercurios found 760 Montauk Hwy (Unit 4).

The 45-minute cycling classes are built to apply to all fitness levels, and Mercurio wants to “create an environment where people feel comfortable.” She said personal goals and limitations are taken into account, as well as any injuries.

The cycling classes are music-oriented and fun, Mercurio said. She added that she wants to provide people a good time and a great workout.

AM Fitness has different types of memberships, which include class packs to monthly unlimited membership. They are currently running two classes for $20 special for first-timers. The schedule for classes is online at their website, www.amfitnesscycle.com. The studio is also integrated with the MINDBODY app.
