CM boys lacrosse are Suffolk County champs

Center Moriches boys varsity lacrosse excelled in their impressive 2025 campaign, led by head coach, Mike Vitulli.

The Center Moriches Red Devils finished the regular season with a 6-8 league record and an 8-8 overall record and qualified for the Suffolk County Class D playoffs.

The Red Devils defeated the Babylon Panthers in a thriller on Saturday, May 31, at East Islip High School, as they made history by capturing the program’s first-ever Suffolk County championship.

The Red Devils started off strong, shutting out their opponent in the first quarter as Center Moriches poured it on with four goals and then had a 4-0 lead at the end of the opening period.

The Panthers slinked back into the game, but Center Moriches fended them off and scored three fourth-quarter goals, and the final score was Center Moriches 7, Babylon 6. Colin Casey, Charles Dechiaro, and Christian Versacci each had one goal apiece, while Gavin Javetski and Caden Leslie chipped in each with two goals.

Goalie John Marino summated 15 saves in the county championship game.

Center Moriches fell to Cold Spring Harbor ,16-8, on Wednesday, June 4, at East Islip, for the Long Island championship. Casey led the 2025 spring season in goals (43) and points (68) and had the second-most assists with 25.

William Jordan placed second on the club in the goal and points tally with 35 and 56, respectively, and fourth with 21 assists. Leslie Caden finished in third place with 24 goals, finished fourth in points (47), and third in assists (23). 

Javetski had the fourth-most goals and points for Center Moriches, tallying 22 and 53, and was the team leader in assists (30). For goalkeeping duties, senior John Marino turned away over 100 shots, calculating 117 saves with a 57 save percentage, and sophomore Michael Albino prevented 96 balls going through the mesh with 96 saves and a 53 save percentage.
