Center Moriches girls varsity basketball enjoyed a flourishing 2024-25 winter season. The Center Moriches Red Devils of Suffolk County League VII concluded the regular season with a 10-6 league record and 11-9 overall record.
They started off 0-2 after losses to Eastport-South Manor and Lindenhurst, then fended off the Port Jefferson Royals 44-41 on Dec. 10, then two days later defeated Greenport/Shelter Island, then fell to Babylon 51-40.
In late December, the Red Devils annihilated Southampton 50-11, downed the Bellport Clippers 45-34, then fell to Mount Sinai. In early January, they defeated Pierson/Bridgehampton 44-33, but lost to Mattituck by a sliver 37-36, then fell to Smithtown Christian 40-26.
A four-game winning streak ensued during the middle of the month. They had an 8-point victory over East Hampton, seized Port Jeff by 9 points, dominated Greenport/Shelter Island 44-28, then overpowered the Babylon Panthers 43-35.
Followed by the winning streak, Center Moriches lost three in a row to Southampton, Smithtown Christian, and Pierson/Bridgehampton.
On Saturday, Feb. 1, the Red Devils beat the Mattituck Tuckers by 8 points by a score of 43-35, then prevailed in a 5-point win over the East Hampton Bonackers 40-35 in the regular-season finale.
Center Moriches faced Kings Park for the first round of the playoffs and lost 50-12 on Feb. 13. It was a valiant season for Center Moriches.
