Barn Again Farm continues to grow

Posted

Thirteen-year-old Barn Again Farm owner Matt Gartelman opened his farm stand at the new location of the historic Ann Smith Duck Farm Tin Barn, at the corner of Bay Avenue and Montauk Highway, in East Moriches this spring.

“We would like to thank the community for coming out and supporting for the spring season,” said  Gartelman. “It was a success!”

Now, in an effort to continue its growth, Gartelman said he has been working with Capt. Brian’s Bees, who has been helping and mentoring him about the bees. Currently, he said, he has about four hives, including a native Kenyan hive.

“It is never to rarely used in the north, but we have built and modified it using thicker wood and materials,” he said of his plans for beekeeping.

The plan is to grow the apiary to 15 hives and eventually sell the honey.

Additionally, this month, he will be selling roasted corn and there will be Bubbas Lemonade. There will also be a new Jamaican jerk seasoning available.

Barn Again Farm will continue donating to the Ketcham Inn Foundation. Ketcham Inn is sponsoring the farm stand by allowing them to use the space.

ABOUT THE FARM

At Barn Again Farm, everything we do is rooted in Jesus Christ. Founded by young entrepreneur Matt Gartelman, our farm is more than just a place to buy fresh food—it’s a place of faith, purpose, and prayer. We believe that farming is a beautiful way to honor God’s creation and teach children and families the value of hard work, sustainability, and gratitude.

MISSION STATEMENT:

• We are committed to organic and sustainable practices, growing chemical-free produce that reflects God’s design.

• We proudly support the Ketcham Inn Foundation, preserving the rich historic and agricultural history of Center Moriches and surrounding areas.

• Every purchase made at Barn Again Farm also helps fund the launch and growth of Barn Again Apiaries, our local beekeeping initiative promoting pollinator health and community education.

• We hope the farm stand will be a reflection of our faith. If you are ever in the area and are looking for a community of believers, please visit us at our home church, South Bay Bible Church.

ABOUT FARMER MATT

Matt Gartelman moved to the Moriches in 2022 from Wantagh in Nassau County with his family, seeking a life with more outdoors and space. As a first-generation farm manager, he found just that in Center Moriches by creating and co-owning Barn Again Farm. He lives on the just under two-acre farm, located at 87 Bernstein Boulevard, with his parents and older brother and sister. The farm is committed to sustainable and responsible farming practices. They use natural fertilizers and pest control methods to ensure the crops are healthy and free from harmful chemicals. Also, the animals are raised in spacious and clean environments, with plenty of access to fresh air and sunshine.
