The Center Moriches council of the Knights of Columbus is hosting a walk/run fundraiser to raise money for Peconic Bay Medical Center’s women, children, and neonatal care center. Laps for Life will be held on Oct. 6 (rain date is Oct. 13) and registration is currently open.

The Knights are looking for sponsors of the event, which could support through monetary or in-kind donations. The tiers for sponsorship range from $100 to $1,000, or whatever the person or business would like to donate. Interested sponsors can email info@laps-for-life.com for more information.

The organization supports the work being done at PBMC and wanted to give back through this event.

“It’s for giving back to the community,” said Ted Kole, coordinator of the event.

The race gives people the option to walk or run, each with different goal distance levels. You could walk/run three, five, or seven miles, or choose a goal of your own. The race will be around the track at Center Moriches High School. The registration is $10 to participate, which includes a T-shirt. Accompanying the registration is a requested donation form, where you could make a flat donation amount or a donation per lap.

After the race, participants will be rewarded with a community barbecue. Arrival for the race begins at 9 a.m. and the barbecue will be at noon. The registration form along with rules for the race can be found on laps-for-life.com. There will be an award ceremony after the race for the most donations gathered per level. Registration is open until Sept. 12.
