Seniors shine at the CM catholic school

Posted

Last month, the seniors of the local community were celebrated and honored by The Mission, the new Middle School Academy at Our Lady Queen of Apostles Regional Catholic School in Center Moriches.  Seniors were invited to a special 11 a.m. Mass followed by an incredible reception in the school auditorium. The afternoon included lunch, interaction between seniors and students and some time for games and fellowship.  The feast of St. Joseph the Worker, a patron saint of seniors, is celebrated on May 1.

Each month, students in The Mission are required to be part of some type of community service events that links to social justice teaching. Students have worked with a special project to provide a home for a family in Algeria, worked with local food pantries, spent time at Shrine of Our Lady of the Isle and much more. For the upcoming month, students will visit and work with Hope House Ministries and Good Shepherd Hospice.

Seniors were very touched by the day. One guest sent a note to The Mission saying, “This day was a wonderful idea…I am new here and met six new people. It was so nice to feel I belong.”  Sister Ann Berendes, director of Senior Ministry, commented, “Our seniors are our greatest resources of wisdom and wonder. We are so blessed for all they do. What a great way to celebrate them!”
