Keith’s Corner: Summer of food drives

Posted

During the month of July, Girl Scout Troop 633, pictured above with Keith Caputo of Helping Makes U Happy, will be holding food drives at the Center Moriches King Kullen to assist HMUH in our fourth summer of feeding families referred by the schools.

On a weekly basis from July until the week of Labor Day, groups of volunteers collect, purchase, pack and deliver boxes of easy-to-prepare, nonperishable breakfast and lunch items to these families, and also to the Veterans Food Pantry in Yaphank.  This year we will also be collecting school supply items to fill new backpacks for the children, which will be delivered along with the final food deliveries.

If you are interested in participating in this project, please call or text 631-848-9008, or email us at helpingmakesuhappy@gmail.com. Boxes are packed on Mondays, early evening, and delivered on Tuesday afternoons/evenings. Donations are always gratefully accepted.

The CMFD will be hosting its always-popular annual Country Western Night on Saturday, July 13 behind the firehouse. Come on down and get your country on! Call 631-878-0089, x 116 for more info.

If you love Chinese auctions, great food, and supporting a fantastic organization, then the IRIE Chinese auction at Giorgio's on Thursday, July 18 is the place for you! We'll be showing our support for sure. For information and reservations, please call 631-871-1916—no tickets sold at door.

If you're having a summer yard sale and find you have leftover Halloween costumes you no longer want, please remember us and our annual October free Halloween costume giveaway. We accept gently used costumes all year round!

Have a happy and safe Fourth of July everyone!
