Construction has begun on 55 units of affordable housing at 400 E. Main Street at the corner of Grove Avenue and Montauk Highway in East Patchogue.
Concrete has been poured for two of the three buildings at The Grove and excavation for the foundation for the third building is scheduled for this week, said David Gallo, CEO of Jericho-based Georgica Green Ventures, the parent company of the project’s developer, GGV Grove.
Construction is anticipated to take about 18 months, Gallo said. The company expects to begin accepting applications from prospective tenants about 90 to 120 days before construction is completed, Gallo said.
Seventeen of the units at The Grove will be set aside for supportive housing for domestic violence survivors and their children.
The $34 million project will also include an on-site coffee shop run by Nice Place Coffee, which has a location at Georgica Green’s Speonk Commons apartment complex in Speonk.
Georgica Green has built more than 1,000 units of affordable housing across Long Island, Brooklyn, and Westchester County.
