Eagle Scout honored by town

On May 19, supervisor Ed Romaine attended the Court of Honor Ceremony for Boy Scout Troop 221 at the Manorville Fire Department. During the event, the supervisor presented a proclamation to new Eagle Scout Max Carson, a senior at Eastport-South Manor High School. "I commend Max for his commitment to scouting and service to the community,” Romaine said. “Earning the rank of Eagle Scout is a great achievement that he should be very proud of. Scouts are our country’s future leaders and from what I see, we will be in very good hands.”

To achieve the rank of Eagle Scout, a scout must first work his way through all previous Boy Scout ranks, while completing certain requirements such as earning merit badges, holding a leadership position within the troop, and completing a community service project. Since the award was presented in 1912, no more than four percent of all scouts have attained the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank attainable in the Boy Scouts of America. Since its introduction in 1911, the Eagle Scout rank has been earned by more than two million young men.
